Abstract:Existing beet sugar production faces serious environmental pollution，high energy consumption，and low product quality.In order to solve these problems，this study applied a new type of spiral membrane to beet sugar production to optimize pretreatment of beet leach juice. Moreover，it explored feasibility of applying the membrane process to beet sugar industry，and developed a new process of beet sugar production based on membrane technology.According to the results，products obtained by the new process had less suspended matter than those obtained by the traditional process did. The new process could effectively reduce color values of products by 65%-69% while enabling sterilization.The brix of dilute juice was increased from 12°BX to 30°BX by nanofiltration concentration. This improved product quality and reduced energy consumption of evaporation concentration，improving product purity. The new membrane process had an overall yield of more than 95%，which was improved a lot compared with the yield of 91.5% of the traditional process.In addition，it has obvious advantages in both quality and energy conservation. Therefore，this new membrane technology can be used in beet sugar production.
