Abstract:Hippophae rhamnoides（sea buckthorn），a type of edible medicinal plant used as a medication and as a health-maintenance product，is known to possess nutritional value，multiple biological activities，and positive health effects.Its major chemical compounds are flavenoids and saponins，but other possible major nutritional components include vitamins，amino acids，and trace elements.Sea buckthorn consumption induces antioxidation，antitumor，blood glucose-lowering，and lipid metabolism-improving effects，among others.Thus，the judicious development and utilization of sea buckthorn could impart huge social and economic benefits.This paper aimed to provide a reference for in-depth research and the comprehensive development of sea buckthorn by summarizing its nutritional composition，health functions，and current product development strategies.
